Ripon Lodge Barn, ca. 1833

The barn at Ripon Lodge was constructed about the same time as the house (1833) by prominent Jefferson Countian Henry S. Turner on his "Wheatlands" estate, the main house of which was known originally as "Castle Thunder". Henry S. Turner was, in the early 19th century, one of the largest land holders in Jefferson County.

The size of the grain bins in this barn testify to the importance of wheat as Jefferson County's major agricultural crop throughout most of the 19th century.

Local square and round dance organizations will  host a dance here from 11 am to 2 pm on Saturday, October 4th.  (Admission free to Barn Tour ticket holders.)
